Gunjan Creations

Working out of a basement in Lajpat Nagar-1 has its ups and downs. Gunjan Creations is located in the basement of TMA Tower, specifically I-52a. You have to walk down the stairs and sometimes the air feels a bit heavy, but we have the coolers running to keep things moving. Being in Lajpat Nagar means it is always crowded outside, so getting deliveries in and out through the traffic is a daily struggle. Inside, we have rows of sewing machines and tables piled high with different fabrics. The lighting isn't the best, so we use these extra desk lamps to see the fine details of the work. It’s a bit cramped because we have a lot of stock squeezed into the corners. We don’t have a fancy showroom or anything; it’s mostly just the sounds of the machines and people talking over the hum. Most of the day is spent checking measurements and making sure the thread matches the cloth. Sometimes the stairs get blocked with rolls of material, and we have to help the delivery guys carry everything down by hand. It’s a practical space for practical work. We’ve been in this basement for a while and we know all the neighbors in the building. It’s not a quiet job, but we are used to the noise and the constant pace of the basement life. The rent keeps going up but we like the central location.
