M. M. Hosiery Industry

Our workshop is at 9008-a Shiddi Pura, which is part of the Karol Bagh area. It’s a very old part of Delhi where the lanes are narrow and there’s always something going on. We focus on hosiery work here. The machines we use are quite old but they still run well if you take care of them. We have a small team of operators who know these machines inside and out. It’s often quite noisy and the air is full of little bits of cotton fluff. We don't have a fancy office or a receptionist. If you come by, you’ll probably just find us in our undershirts working on the latest batch of socks or vests. The building itself has seen better days, but it serves its purpose. We spend our mornings checking the yarn and setting up the needles. It’s a lot of technical work that requires some patience. Sometimes a machine breaks down and we have to spend half the day fixing it ourselves. We aren't a big corporation. We are just a local industry trying to make decent products for the market. Most of our finished goods are packed into simple plastic bags and put into sacks for delivery. It’s a practical life. We don't make big promises, we just try to get the knitting done right. That's our daily life here in Shiddi Pura. We just keep our heads down and handle the yarn as best as we can every single day. There’s no big secret to it, just keeping the needles moving.
