Hikampur Primary School

We are situated out on Safiabad Road in the Narela area. Narela is quite far out from the center of Delhi, so it has a much different feel to it. It is more open, but the main road gets a lot of heavy traffic heading towards the border. Our primary school is just a basic building right by the side of the road. We actually have a lot of space around us compared to the schools in the middle of the city. The wind blows a lot of dust in from the fields nearby, so we are always sweeping the floors and cleaning the desks. The students come from the local villages and the new housing areas popping up around Narela. We are just a small team of teachers and staff trying to keep things organized. We do not have any big corporate backing or anything like that. It is just us. The mornings are usually the busiest when everyone arrives at once on their cycles or walking. We spend our days teaching the basics and making sure the kids are safe. Sometimes the internet is slow out here, so we do most things on paper in our big ledgers. It is a quiet kind of life, mostly. We are just a part of the landscape on Safiabad Road. People pass by us every day on their way to work in the industrial area nearby. It is an honest, simple school for the younger children in this part of Delhi.
