Gulati Stationery Shop

We open the shutters at Gulati Stationery Shop every morning around the same time. Being at number 14 in Prithviraj Market means we see a lot of people walking by to work. Karol Bagh is always a bit noisy with the cars and the rickshaws. Inside, it smells like paper and old boxes. We spend a good part of the day just putting things back where they belong. Kids come in after school looking for specific notebooks or those blue pens they like. We have stacks of registers and chart papers leaning against the back wall. Sometimes the fan makes a clicking sound when it is on high, but we get used to it. My desk is near the front where the light is better. We don't have a huge staff, just a couple of us helping out. Usually, we eat our lunch in the back room while listening to the radio. The market gets very crowded on the weekends so we have to stay alert. It isn't a fancy place with bright lights or anything, just a regular shop where you can find an eraser or a ruler when you need one. We try to keep the staples and clips in the same spot so people don't have to ask every time. It’s mostly just about keeping the shelves full and the dust off the folders. That's how it goes for us most days.
