About Concept Mannequins – Fashion & Trends in New Delhi
Our shop is in the basement at No. 306 in Prakash Mohalla, over in East of Kailash. It’s a bit of an unusual place to work, being underground and all. We deal with mannequins mostly. It can be a little strange at night with all those figures standing around in the dark, but you get used to it. We spend our days fixing them up, painting them, or getting them ready to go out to stores. It’s a lot of fiberglass and plastic work. The air can get a bit dusty from the sanding, so we usually keep the fans going. We don't have a big fancy storefront. Most people find us because they need something specific for their window display. We handle a lot of repairs too, because mannequins get dropped more often than you’d think. It's just a few of us here. We don't have a secretary or anything. If the phone rings, one of us just wipes our hands and answers it. We’ve been in this basement for quite a few years now. It’s a quiet life, mostly. We just focus on getting the shapes right and making sure they stand up straight. It’s a niche business, I guess, but it keeps us busy enough. We don't do much marketing; the work usually speaks for itself when people see our stuff in the shops. Sometimes the stairs are a pain when we have to carry heavy torsos up to the street, but we manage somehow.
