Usha Book Centre

We've been here at Chatta Miyan for a good while now. Our spot is pretty easy to find since we’re right near Delite Cinema, though sometimes the noise from the crowd outside gets a bit much when a big movie lets out. Most days it’s just us inside, moving heavy boxes around or trying to find a specific title someone asked for last week. The shop isn't fancy at all. We have wooden shelves that go all the way to the ceiling and sometimes the dust really gets to you if you aren't careful about cleaning. People stop by after seeing a film or just because they were passing through the lane and saw the books. It gets crowded on the weekends. We don't have a fancy computer system for managing everything, so a lot of it is just knowing where things are by memory. Sometimes the lights flicker when the weather is bad, but we keep the doors open anyway. It’s a lot of work keeping up with what people want to read these days. We mostly just keep our heads down and handle the books. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we first opened at number 201. There used to be different shops next door, but now it’s all different. Still, the cinema brings in a lot of folks who just want to browse for a bit before their show starts. We don't mind. It's just how things go here. Usually, it's quiet in the mornings, which is when we get most of the heavy lifting and sorting done.
