Katra Subash in Chandni Chowk is a world of its own. Our address is No. 4827 and it’s right in the thick of all that history and chaos. If you’ve ever been to Chandni Chowk, you know how crowded it gets. The lanes are narrow and there’s always someone shouting or a rickshaw bell ringing. Rishi Vastra Vyapar Pvt. Ltd. is inside one of those old buildings that have been around for generations. The walls are thick and the ceilings are high. It stays surprisingly cool inside even when the sun is beating down on the streets outside. We spend our days surrounded by bundles and piles of things. There’s not much space to move around but we have a system that works for us. Every morning we have to navigate the crowds just to get to the door. It’s a lot of energy and it can be exhausting, but there’s a certain rhythm to it. We know the other shopkeepers in the Katra and we often share a cup of tea or some snacks in the afternoon. It’s a very traditional way of working. We don't have any modern glass walls or fancy elevators. Just a solid old place where we’ve been doing business for a long time. It feels like we are part of the street itself. It is noisy and dusty but it is home for the work day. We wouldn't know what to do in a quiet office.
