We are located on the upper storey at 2138 Ahata Kaley Sahib on Qasimjan Street. Being in Ballimaran means there is never a dull moment. The streets down there are always packed with rickshaws and people carrying bundles of goods. Livewire Apparel Inc. is our small setup tucked away above the noise. You have to climb some narrow stairs to reach us, but it’s worth it for the bit of peace we get up here. We spend our days cutting fabric and putting things together. The light comes in through the old windows and gives the place a certain feel. It’s an old building, so the floors creak a bit when you walk. We don't have any fancy office furniture, just long tables and plenty of chairs for everyone. Most of us have lived in this part of the city our whole lives. We know the shortcuts through the alleys. Working in Ballimaran has its challenges, especially when deliveries need to be moved through the crowds. We usually just carry things by hand. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know. The smell of tea from the stall downstairs usually drifts up around noon. We aren't trying to be some big corporate entity; we’re just a group of people making clothes in an old part of town. Sometimes the roof leaks a tiny bit when it pours, but we have buckets for that. We just keep sewing.
