About Assistant Engineer Powergrid – Engineering in New Delhi
I work as an assistant engineer for Powergrid, and I stay over at the D3C MIG Flats in Mayapuri, New Delhi. The job involves a lot of technical oversight on the power transmission systems. Even though Powergrid is a big name, my daily life is pretty grounded. I spend a lot of time going from my flat in Mayapuri to the different sites we manage. New Delhi is a huge place with a massive demand for electricity, so there is never a slow day. The work is mostly about checking the grid's health and making sure the high-voltage lines are operating correctly. It’s a lot of data and monitoring. Sometimes I have to go out to the substations during odd hours if there’s an emergency. Living in the MIG flats means I’m right in the middle of a busy neighborhood. You see the same people every day at the local market. My home is also where I catch up on some of the technical reading I need to do. It’s not all excitement; there’s a good amount of reporting and logging numbers every single shift. We just try to ensure the city doesn't go dark. It’s a responsibility that stays in the back of your head all the time. No fancy speeches about it, just making sure the equipment does its job. The commute can be rough, but that's just life in the city for us.
