Kalkaji is a crowded place. Our office for Artq Interiors Pvt Ltd is on the first floor of E-112. You have to walk up some narrow stairs to get here. Once you're inside, it’s just a regular workspace. We have some samples of laminates and tiles leaning against the walls. It’s not very organized, but we know where everything is. The noise from the street downstairs can be a lot sometimes, especially during the market hours. New Delhi-110019 is where we spend most of our time. We do a lot of interior work, which means a lot of talking to contractors and checking on materials. It’s not always pretty. Sometimes things don't arrive on time, or the color isn't quite right. We just deal with it. We have a few computers running design software and a printer that jams at the worst moments. It’s just a small group of us here. We aren't trying to be the biggest firm in the city. We just like doing the work. Usually, there’s a box of half-eaten biscuits on the table and some cold tea. We spend a lot of time drawing and then redrawing when someone changes their mind. That's just the way it works in Kalkaji. It’s a busy life, and we don't have much time for anything besides getting the projects finished. We just keep moving from one job to the next without much fuss.
