Our shop is at Building Number 1538 on the ground floor in Kotla Mubarakpur. It is quite close to South Extension 1 which makes things easy for our regulars. We make ice here and it is a lot noisier than you might think. The machines hum all day and night. We have to keep a close eye on the water quality and the freezing temps. If one machine breaks it’s a big mess for us. We started this because the local shops always needed more ice during the summer months. It is mostly just me and a few guys from the neighborhood working here. The floor is always a bit wet so we have to be careful not to slip. We don’t have a fancy reception area. If you come in, you will probably see us moving heavy bags or loading up a delivery truck. It’s cold inside the freezer rooms but outside in the Delhi heat it feels like a different world. We don’t do a lot of talking. We just focus on keeping the blocks clear and the cubes ready. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to hurry to save the stock. That is the only time things get really stressful. Otherwise it is just a steady rhythm of freezing and packing. We have been here for a long time now and people know the spot. It is a basic business but people always need ice when it gets hot out.
