Shree Ashtapad Jewellers

You have to climb up to the third floor at 16/226 on Achari Street to find Shree Ashtapad Jewellers. It’s not the easiest place to get to if you aren't looking for it specifically, but that keeps it quiet away from the street noise below. Achari Street is usually packed with people and vendors, so being on the third floor is actually kind of nice for us. We’ve been in this space for a long time. It’s a bit cramped with all the tools, the small safes, and the desks, but we make it work. Most of what we do is wholesale or custom work for people who know us through family or word of mouth. We don't have big signs outside or a fancy entrance. You just walk up the stairs and there we are. The lighting isn't the best in the hallway, so we use a lot of desk lamps to see the fine details of the jewelry we work on. We spend hours hunched over our benches. Sometimes we forget to take a break until the sun starts going down. It’s a family-run operation, so there’s usually some personal stuff lying around, like a tiffin box or a newspaper from that morning. We aren't trying to be a corporate brand. We just like making jewelry and selling it to people who appreciate the effort that goes into it. It gets hot in the summer up here, but we have a small fan that helps. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing every day.
