About S. K. Rathor – Agriculture & Farming in Nashik
Wani is a relatively quiet town, and I have been working here as an onion merchant for a very long time. I go by S. K. Rathor, and my place of business is quite simple. It is basically just a large storage area and a small corner where I keep my accounts and a few chairs. Onions are a very unpredictable business to be in. The prices change every single day, and you always have to keep an eye on what the weather is doing in the farming regions. If the rains come at the wrong time, it changes everything for us. I spend most of my time talking to the farmers who bring their crops in on tractors or small trucks. They have their own difficulties, and we try to work together fairly. The smell of onions is quite strong, but after a few years, you don't even notice it anymore. It is honest, hard work. I do not have a big team or any kind of marketing strategy. It is just me and a few local helpers who handle the heavy sacks. We load up the trucks and send them off to the bigger city markets. Some days are incredibly busy, especially when the harvest is coming in thick. Other days are slow, and we just sit and talk about the news. It is a steady way of life that suits me well.
