If you want to find us, you’ve got to head down to the Onion Potato Market near the RTO on Peth Road. We’re at No. 3, and believe me, you’ll know you’re in the right place by the smell alone. Sml Onion Export is right in the thick of the action. It’s loud, it’s dirty, and there are trucks everywhere trying to back into tight spaces. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. Our space is basically just a spot to keep the scales and the ledgers dry. We spend most of our hours out on the floor or standing by the loading docks. There's red onion skin blowing everywhere when the wind picks up. We’re constantly checking the quality of the bags and making sure the loaders are doing their jobs right. It’s exhausting work, and your clothes always end up smelling like the market by the time you go home. We deal with a lot of different people, from the farmers bringing in their crops to the drivers who are taking them to the port. There’s a lot of haggling and checking prices on the board. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s how things get done in the export business. We grab a quick bite at the local stalls when we can, and then it’s back to the crates. The pace is fast, and we just keep pushing through until the last truck is gone for the day.
