Gawli Agri Exports

Our base is in Wajgaon, which is part of the Deola Taluka. It’s a small village where everyone knows each other’s business. Gawli Agri Exports is run by a few of us who grew up around these farms and know the soil well. We don't have a big skyscraper office; we work out of a simple building right near the fields. Our main job is taking what grows here and sending it further away to different cities or even abroad. It involves a lot of sorting through produce to make sure it’s good enough for shipping. We spend a lot of time on the phone with truck drivers and agents at the ports who are always in a hurry. Sometimes the weather ruins the harvest and we have nothing to send, which is a big stress for us. Other times, the bins are overflowing and we’re working late into the night under dim lights. It's not a very polished operation at all. We use old scales and the floors are often stained with vegetable juice and dirt. We have a couple of computers for the export paperwork, but mostly we are out back checking the crates ourselves. It’s a bit out of the way, so people have to look for Wajgaon specifically to find us. We don't do much advertising because we don't see the point. We just try to be fair with the local growers and keep our word. It’s a lot of physical work and constant worrying.
