Over in Irala, which is near Malegaon, you will find us at Kailas Pandurang Dahatre’s place. We go by the name Shivsutra Jaivik Sheti Mission Farmer Producer Company Limited. It sounds like a big title, but we are just a group of local people interested in organic farming. We call it a mission because it is really hard to get folks to change how they have been farming for decades. In this part of the country, people are used to the old ways, and we are trying to show them that there is a different path with Jaivik Sheti. We do not have a corporate office. Most of our talking happens right there in Irala, sitting around outside or in a simple room. We talk about soil health, natural fertilizers, and how to get away from the chemicals that cost so much money. It is slow work. You cannot rush the soil, and you cannot rush people either. We spend a lot of time listening to the concerns of the other farmers in Malegaon. We are not here to give fancy speeches. We are here to work alongside everyone else. Sometimes the weather ruins a crop, or a new method does not work out like we hoped, but we just keep trying. It is a practical, everyday effort to make the land better for the next generation. We are just normal people with a common goal, trying to keep our farming heritage alive and healthy.
