Santoshi Mata Flour And Rice Mill is located right here in Vani, just off the main road in the Dindori area. It gets pretty loud during the day because of all the traffic passing by on the road and the sound of the machines grinding away. We open up early most mornings when the air is still a bit fresh. By the afternoon, the heat really picks up, especially with the rice and flour machines running constantly. There is always a fine layer of white dust on the floor and the benches, which is just part of life at a mill I guess. People from around Santa Ji come by with their sacks of grain, and we spend a lot of time just lifting and moving things around. It’s hard work on the back, but it is what we do. The place is not very big or fancy, just some sturdy walls and the equipment we need to get the rice and flour sorted for the local families. Sometimes the machines act up or need a bit of oiling, so there is always a bit of grease on my hands. We try to keep things moving so nobody has to wait too long out in the sun. The main road stays busy until late, so we see a lot of people coming and going. It’s a simple setup, nothing like those big factories you see in cities, but it works for us and our neighbors here in the village.
