We are over at the Old Market Yard on Peth Road in Panchvati, Nashik. Our spot is Gala No. 79. If you have ever been to the market yard, you know it is a hectic place. There are trucks coming and going at all hours, and the air is always full of the smell of fresh vegetables and the sound of people shouting. Sai Datt Vegetable Company is right in the middle of that chaos. We start our day very early, usually while most of the city is still asleep. That is when the best produce arrives. Our gala is packed with crates of whatever is in season. We do not have a fancy office; we just have a small corner with a table and a few chairs where we handle the money and the orders. It is a rough-and-tumble environment. The floors are rarely clean for long, and there is always someone moving a pallet or checking the quality of the tomatoes. We have been in Panchvati for years, and we have seen the market change quite a bit. But the core of the work stays the same. You buy, you sell, and you make sure the vegetables are moving out as fast as they come in so they stay fresh. We do not use big words to describe what we do. We just supply vegetables to the people who need them. It is hard work, and your back usually aches by the end of the shift.
