New Vardhaman Adat

New Vardhaman Adat is located at No. 12 Bhandari Sankul on the Mumbai Agra Road in Pimpalgaon. Our business is mostly adat work, which means we act as commission agents for the local produce. The office is in Bhandari Sankul, right where the main road passes through, so we get a lot of noise from the trucks and buses heading toward Mumbai or Agra. It’s a busy corridor for trade. Every morning starts with checking what’s arrived and getting things ready for the buyers. We have a big open space where we do the weighing and sorting of the crops. It’s not the cleanest job—you end up with a bit of dirt on your clothes by the end of the shift—but it’s part of the trade we've been in for years. We deal with a lot of regular growers who have been bringing their stuff to us for a long time. There's a lot of shouting and haggling over prices, which is just how things go in the adat business during the peak hours. Our office inside the Sankul is where we settle the accounts and have a bit of tea when there's a break in the action. The weather out here in Pimpalgaon can get really hot in the summer, so we have a few fans going all the time to keep the air moving. We aren't doing anything fancy here; we just make sure the farmers get their money and the buyers get their goods.
