If you head out to Surgana in the Nashik area, you might find us at G. N. 26 in Garmal. Our group is called Kanasara Mauli Adivasi Farmers Producer Company Limited. We are mostly tribal farmers who have been living on this land for generations. Things in Garmal are quite traditional, but we realized that we needed a formal way to handle our business. That is why we registered this company. It is a way for us to protect our interests and make sure our traditional crops get a fair price in the bigger markets. Nashik is a big place, but out here in the hills, things move a bit slower. We don't have a corporate office with air conditioning. Our meetings often happen right there on the land or in a small room at Garmal. We deal with the daily struggles of farming in a hilly region. The water can be scarce and the transport to the city takes a long time. Every member of our company is a farmer first. We know the weight of a bag of grain and the feel of the earth after the first rain. We aren't looking to become some massive corporation. We just want to make sure our community stays strong and our children can see a future in farming. It is honest work and we do it with our own hands every day. We don't have much, but we have our unity and the land we walk on.
