Maa Akshara High School

Our school, Maa Akshara High School, is situated in Gundlagudem, which is part of the Aler area in Nalgonda. It is a quiet spot compared to the bigger towns nearby. The building itself is straightforward, nothing fancy to look at from the outside. We have students coming in from all the surrounding villages. Most of them walk or come on their cycles. We spend our days going through the textbooks and making sure the kids understand the basics. The rooms are a bit small, but they fit the number of students we have. We do not have a huge library or a computer lab with the latest machines. It is more about the blackboards and the notebooks. During the hot months, it can get a bit stuffy inside, so we keep the doors open for some air. The children are usually well-behaved, though they do get noisy during the lunch break when they run around the small yard. We do not have a lot of staff, so everyone chips in with different tasks. If a light bulb goes out, one of us just goes and changes it. It is a very hands-on way of running things. We do not spend money on fancy advertisements or shiny brochures. People hear about us through word of mouth in the village. We just try to provide a steady place for the local kids to get their schooling done. It is a simple, honest environment for everyone.
