Rahul Hair Salons

Rahul Hair Salons is located out in Narkher, right near Jay Stambh Chowk. It is a bit of a journey from the main Nagpur city, but we like it here. The shop has been a part of this community for a long time. I am the one who usually handles the cutting, and I’ve been doing it since I was quite young. The shop itself is just one room with a few old-fashioned barber chairs that have been here for years. They are still very comfortable though. We open up pretty early in the morning because the farmers and workers like to get a shave before they head out for their day's work. It is a nice time of day when it’s still cool outside. I keep a small radio in the corner that plays old Bollywood songs most of the time. It gives the place a bit of a relaxed feel. We don't have any air conditioning, just a big ceiling fan that works hard all day. The walls are painted a simple blue and have some old pictures of different hairstyles, though most men just ask for the same cut every time. We see the same faces every few weeks and it feels good to know everyone by name. It’s a quiet life in Narkher and the shop is where most of the local news gets shared between neighbors. No fancy stuff here, just a place to get sorted out and go home.
