Out here in Vittal Nagar, things are usually pretty quiet until the school gates open. We are located right on Chikhali Road in the Manewada area of Nagpur, so we get a lot of kids from the nearby houses walking over. The sun hits the front of the school early in the morning and by noon it’s usually baking. We’ve got a couple of big trees in the yard that provide a bit of shade where the kids sit during lunch. Most of the staff live around here too, so we all know each other’s business a bit too well. It’s a simple setup at Prerna Vidya Mandir. We don’t have those big glass windows or central air, just normal classrooms with benches that have seen a lot of carving over the years. Our peon, he’s been here forever, knows every squeak the gate makes. On rainy days, the Manewada Road gets a bit muddy, and we spend half our time telling the kids to wipe their feet so they don’t track it all over the halls. It’s a lot of paperwork and making sure the chalk supply doesn't run out. We try to keep the place tidy, but with so many children, there's always a stray lunchbox or a sweater left behind. It’s just a regular place for learning, nothing more and nothing less than that.
