National Salon

Working in the MIDC area of Nagpur means you deal with a lot of dust and noise from the factories nearby. National Salon is tucked away in this industrial zone, and most of our visitors are the guys who work in the plants around 440016. They come in after their shifts, usually looking a bit tired and covered in grime. We give them a place to sit down and clean up a bit. It is a very basic shop. We don’t have air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that hum all day long. The walls are painted a simple color and we have some old posters up. It gets really busy during the lunch hour and right after five o'clock. We don't take appointments or have a fancy reception desk. You just come in, grab a newspaper if one is laying around, and wait your turn. The water can be a bit cold in the winter mornings, but nobody seems to mind much. We’ve been in this part of Nagpur for a long time, so we’ve seen the industries change and grow. It’s a rough and ready kind of place, fitting for the MIDC vibe. We just focus on the task at hand and try to keep the floor swept between customers. It’s not much, but it’s our living and we know the regulars by their first names.
