If you’re traveling through Narkher on the Main Road, you’ll find Askar Hair Salons. We are right there where the traffic is heaviest, so it gets a bit dusty inside sometimes. We keep a wet cloth handy to wipe down the chairs throughout the day. The shop is just one long room with mirrors on one side and a bench for waiting on the other. It’s a very straightforward place. We don’t have any of those modern machines that make a lot of noise. It’s mostly just us using our hands and the tools we’ve had for a long time. The floor is concrete and we try to keep it swept, but hair is part of the business. During the afternoons when it’s quiet, we sit outside on a plastic chair and watch the trucks go by towards Nagpur. We get a mix of people, from truck drivers passing through to local shopkeepers. Nobody expects anything fancy here. They just want their hair cut short and their beard lined up properly. We don’t charge much because we know people work hard for their money. The fan wobbles a bit when it's on high speed, but it keeps the air moving. It’s a honest way to spend the day, and we’ve been doing it on this road for quite a while now, serving anyone who needs a quick fix.
