V. K. P Exports

Our place is at 6 Sree Nilayam in Sasthankarai, which is over in Colachel. It’s a different vibe being near the coast. You can sometimes smell the salt in the air when the wind blows the right way. V. K. P Exports is basically just a small office and some storage space we’ve managed to keep together. We deal with whatever goods are in demand for export at the time. It’s mostly about coordinating with the boat owners or the truck drivers who come through this way. Colachel is a place with a lot of history, and we feel like a small part of the current trade happening here. We don't have shiny brochures or a fancy lobby. It’s a working space where the floors are usually a bit dusty from the goods moving in and out. We drink tea in the morning and get straight to the lists. Some days the internet is slow, so we end up doing things the old-fashioned way with paper and pens. It’s a local operation, and we know the people we work with by name. There isn't much to it besides showing up every day and making sure the crates are loaded correctly. We handle the customs stuff as best as we can. It’s a quiet life but we stay busy with the orders.
