Our place is Vidiyel Fed Farmer Producer Company Limited, and we are over at 49/4-1 Kamaraj Nagar in Vilathikulam. This part of Tuticorin can be very dry and dusty, so farming here isn't for everyone. You have to be a bit stubborn to make things grow in this soil. We are a group of local farmers who decided to band together to make things a little easier. Our office is a simple building where we keep our records and meet up. It’s not very big and it definitely isn't fancy. We spend most of our time outside anyway, dealing with the heat and the wind. We don't have any big slogans or marketing plans. We just talk about the things that matter, like the cost of fertilizer and when the next rains might come. It’s a hard way to live, but we’ve been doing it for generations. We know everyone in the neighborhood and we try to look out for each other. Sometimes the crops fail because there’s just no water, and those are the hard months. But being part of this group helps us stay positive. We just keep working the land and hoping that the next season will be a bit better than the last one. It’s just us, the local farmers, trying to get by in a tough environment.
