Shakuntla Brick Field

Shakuntla Brick Field is located in Village Heend, which is near Shamli Prabudh Nagar. We are part of the Shamli district. The land around here is good for making bricks, and we’ve been at it for a long time. It’s a family-style operation where everyone chips in. You’ll usually find us out in the field, checking on the kilns or supervising the stacking. It’s a dusty job, and by the end of the day, everything we own is a shade of orange-red. We don't mind it much. The weather is our biggest boss; if it rains, we have to scramble to cover the unbaked bricks. If it's too hot, we have to take more breaks. People from all over Village Heend and Shamli come to us when they are building something new. We don’t have a fancy showroom. We just show them the actual stacks in the field. It’s as real as it gets. We drink a lot of chai and talk to the drivers who come to pick up loads. It feels good to see the bricks we made being used to build houses in our own community. We aren't looking to grow into some huge corporation. We just want to keep the fires going and the bricks moving out of the yard. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy throughout the year. We just do the best we can every day.
