We are located in the B.J. Industrial Estate over in Malad West. Specifically, we are at Gala Number 6 in the Kachpada area. If you’ve ever been to this part of Mumbai, you know it’s a hub for all kinds of manufacturing. Our workshop is where all the assembly happens. You’ll see chair frames, rolls of fabric, and heaps of foam stacked up against the walls. It’s a loud place most days because of the staplers and the drills going off. We spend a lot of time just testing how things feel when you sit on them, making sure nothing wobbles. It’s a practical setup, nothing fancy about it at all. We have a small team of workers who know their way around a sewing machine and a toolkit. The estate can get pretty congested with trucks, so getting stuff delivered is always a bit of a challenge. We mostly just focus on getting the orders ready for the offices and shops that buy from us. Sometimes we run out of a certain color of fabric and have to wait for the supplier to come through, which can be annoying. But mostly, we just keep our heads down and get the chairs built. It’s a lot of physical labor, and by the end of the shift, everyone is pretty tired. We just shut the shutters and start again the next morning.
