Finding us can be a bit of a challenge if you aren't used to Masjid Bunder. We are up on the second floor of the K.J. Building on Khadak Street. Room number 14 is where we keep all the hardware and tools. The stairs are narrow and a bit steep, and the building has that old, lived-in feel you find in this part of Mumbai. There’s a constant drone of the market outside, with porters carrying heavy loads and people shouting. Inside our room, it’s much quieter, though it’s packed from floor to ceiling with metal parts, wrenches, and heavy-duty tools. Everything has its own place, even if it looks cluttered to someone walking in for the first time. We know exactly which shelf has the specific bolt or hammer someone is looking for. It’s dusty work, and our hands are usually a bit greasy from handling the stock. We’ve been in this building for quite some time, and the walls show the age of the business. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. It's just a room full of metal and the people who know how to sell it. We take our orders, write them down in our ledgers, and pack them up. It’s basic, old-school hardware business. We don't see any reason to change how we do things. We just stay here and keep the shelves stocked for whoever needs us.
