You can find us on the 3rd floor of the Mahalaxmi Industrial Estate. We are in Gali No. 317 in Lower Parel. Being on the third floor means a lot of walking up and down because the lift is often busy or broken, but it gives us a bit of a view of the other buildings. It is an industrial area so there is always the sound of machines and people shouting to be heard over the noise. We do tailoring and couture work, mostly focusing on getting the fit right for the people who come to see us. The floor is made of hard concrete and it can get cold in the winter, though that doesn't happen much in Mumbai. We have several sewing machines lined up and a large cutting table that takes up most of the middle room. It is a bit of a maze to get to our unit if you haven't been here before. We keep our patterns hanging on the walls and there are scraps of silk and cotton everywhere. The guys who work here have been doing this for years, so they know the machines inside out. We don't spend money on fancy decorations because we would rather just have good thread and sharp scissors. It is hard work and the days are long, but we like seeing the finished clothes when they are finally done and ready to go.
