Virdev Intermediates Pvt. Ltd. is over in Dalamal Chambers, units 108 and 109. Being in New Marine Lines means we are right in the thick of things. The building is one of those classic South Mumbai structures, always a lot of people in the elevators and messengers running around. Our office is a bit crowded with all the files and samples we keep. It’s a lot of paperwork when you’re dealing with intermediates and chemicals. We spend a lot of time on the phone with the plants or checking on shipping schedules. The view isn’t much, just the building next door, but the location is handy for getting to the stations. It’s a bit of a commute for some of us, but you get used to the train ride. We have a small pantry where we keep the tea things. The office has that old-school feel, with wooden desks and heavy cabinets. We don’t really do the whole modern open-plan thing. Everyone has their own corner and their own pile of work. It’s a busy atmosphere, especially towards the end of the month when we have to close the books. New Marine Lines is a loud place, with the traffic and the sirens, but once you’re inside the office, it’s just the sound of typing and the occasional stapler. We’ve been here a good while and we know the routine of the building by heart. It is just another day of keeping up with the industry.
