Chamee & Palak

We are over at Shop No. 5 in Shubham Apartments. It’s on Bajaj Road in Vile Parle West. Most people know the area because Saroj Fabrics is right next door to us. It gets quite crowded on this street, especially during the wedding season. Our shop isn't huge, but we make the most of the space we have. There are mirrors on the walls and racks full of clothes. We spend a lot of time talking to people about what they want to wear. Sometimes the shop feels a bit small when three or four people are trying things on at once. We usually have some pins stuck in our shirts or hanging around our necks. It’s just part of the job. The floor is often covered in small bits of thread and fabric clippings by the end of the day. We try to sweep up, but it just happens again the next morning. It’s a lively neighborhood. You can hear the traffic and the people walking by all day. We’ve been here for a while and the shop feels like home now. There’s a small fan that wobbles a bit, but it keeps the air moving. We don't really do the whole corporate thing. We just show up, open the shutters, and start working on the dresses. It’s a lot of manual work and checking details on the embroidery. It takes time but that is just how we work here on Bajaj Road.
