Vijaya Motors

We open up here at 62 Masjid Chatrabhuj Ketshi Building pretty early most mornings. It’s usually quiet until the traffic starts picking up outside on the street. The floor is covered in oil stains that have been there for years, and no matter how much we scrub, they don’t really go away. You can find piles of spare parts and old engines tucked into the corners of the shop. My hands are almost always black from the grease, even after I wash them several times at the end of the day. People come by with all sorts of issues with their vehicles, and we just spend the hours looking under hoods or changing out tires. The air in here smells like old gasoline and metal. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded when two or three cars are inside at once, and you have to squeeze past the toolboxes to get to the back. We have an old radio that plays in the background, but mostly you just hear the sound of wrenches hitting the floor or the pneumatic drill. It’s not a fancy place by any means. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we are too busy working to worry about that. When the sun goes down, we pull the shutters halfway and start cleaning up the mess from the day’s work before heading home. It’s just how things go here at Vijaya Motors.
