We are Veermata Mahila Shetkari Producercompany Limited, based in the small village of Tavadi in the Phaltan taluka of Satara. Our address is simply A/P Tavadi, and most people around here know exactly where that is. We are a group of women farmers—that is what "Shetkari" means—and we spend our lives in the fields. Satara is a beautiful place, but the work is hard and the sun can be unforgiving. We don’t have a fancy office building with a reception desk. Usually, we are just meeting up at one of our houses or out by the crops to decide what needs to be done next. Being in the 415523 area, we are quite a way from the big cities, so we have to be self-reliant. We handle everything from the seeds to the harvest ourselves. It is not always easy, and sometimes we run into problems with the weather or the equipment, but we just figure it out. Our company is just a way for us to stay organized and help each other out. We aren't interested in sounding like a big corporation because that is not who we are. We are just local women who know how to farm and want to keep our traditions going while making sure our families are taken care of. It is a simple life, but it is ours. We have lived in Tavadi all our lives and this is just how we do things.
