United Book Binding Works

We’ve been here at Plot No 2-5-4 in Shivaji Nagar for a good while now. Most people around Govandi Charkop know where we are, right near the Nurani Masjid. It’s a busy spot. Inside United Book Binding Works, things are usually a bit cluttered with stacks of paper and covers waiting to be joined. It’s just how it goes when you’re dealing with this kind of work every day. We spend most of our time with the machines and the glue, making sure stuff stays together like it is supposed to. It isn't always quiet in here. You can hear the sounds from the street mixing with the noise of the equipment. Sometimes the humidity in Mumbai makes the paper act up, but we’ve learned how to deal with that over the years. We aren't a big fancy office with glass walls or anything. It’s just a workshop where we get the binding done. People stop by, drop off their things, and we get to it. Sometimes we’re backed up, other times it’s a bit slower, but the work is steady. We’ve seen all sorts of books come through these doors. From thin little pamphlets to thick ones that take a lot of effort to pull together. It’s just what we do here in this corner of the city. We keep the shop open and just keep working through the piles. It is honest work and it keeps us quite busy most days.
