Umiya Engg Works

Umiya Engg Works is situated in Mazgaon, at 1st Sitafal Wadi on Dr Mascarenhas Road. Mazgaon is an old part of the city, full of history and narrow streets that are hard to navigate if you have a big truck. Our workshop is in an old building that has seen better days. The walls are thick, and it stays a little cooler inside than out on the street, which is a blessing in the summer. We do general engineering work, mostly things that require a lot of manual labor and precision. There’s no high-tech automation here. It’s all about the skill of the person holding the tool. I’ve spent most of my life in this neighborhood, and I know most of the other shop owners on the road. We borrow tools from each other and share news over lunch. Our workspace is cluttered with old projects and spare parts that we might need one day. It’s not the kind of place where you’d find a receptionist or a coffee machine. We make our tea on a small stove in the corner. People come to us because they know we’ve been here for a long time and we don't try to overcomplicate things. We just look at the job, give a price, and start working. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day, even if the city around us is constantly changing.
