Umame Restaurant

We are located on the first floor of the Cumbata Building. It's right by the Eros Theatre in Churchgate. Mumbai is always moving fast. Things are no different here on Maharshi Karve Road. The reason we opened Umame Restaurant was to have a spot for a simple meal without a big production. When the lunch rush starts, the kitchen gets pretty loud. If you're near the back, the pans clanking are easy to hear. It’s not the quietest spot, but that’s just Churchgate for you. We deal with the usual city stuff. Sometimes we have leaky pipes or a delivery that shows up late because of the traffic near the station. Our staff is a mix of people. Some have lived in Mumbai their whole lives and some are newer folks. We don't do those fancy greeting speeches. If you come in, we just show you a table and bring the menu. The building is old, so it has its quirks. The elevator is a bit slow sometimes, but we’ve gotten used to it. Most of our regulars come from the offices nearby or people catching a movie at Eros. We just keep our heads down and cook. There’s no big secret to what we do here. We just try to make sure the food is hot and the tables are wiped down properly. We keep at it.
