Our office in Mumbai is over in Wadala East, right across from the I Max and near the big Truck Terminal. If you’ve ever been to this part of town, you know it’s one of the busiest places for logistics. There are trucks everywhere, and the noise of horns never really stops. We are at C.P. No. 8. It’s a very functional spot. We don’t have marble floors or air conditioning that works all the time, but we have plenty of space for the guys to come in and sign their papers. Being so close to the terminal means we are always in the middle of the action. We handle the coordination for the cement loads coming into the city. It’s a lot of shouting to be heard over the traffic and a lot of quick notes scribbled on whatever paper is handy. The staff here is used to the pace. We don’t have time for fancy meetings. We usually eat our lunch at our desks or standing up while talking to a driver. It’s a gritty part of the city, and our office reflects that. It’s about getting the job done and making sure the supplies reach the construction sites on time. It’s a bit of a scramble every day, but we like being where the real work happens. You have to watch your step with all the puddles during monsoon, but we keep the files dry and the coffee hot while we wait for the next shipment.
