Toorabali Karimbhoy & Co.

Our business is located at 175, Kazi Sayed Street, inside the Raja Building. It is an old structure in a part of the city that is always crowded with people and trucks unloading goods. Toorabali Karimbhoy & Co. has been around for quite a while, and the name on the door is something we are just used to seeing every morning. Inside, it is mostly high shelves filled with inventory and a couple of wooden desks where we do all the accounts. It is quite noisy outside because of the market, so we have to speak up when we are talking to customers. The walls are a bit stained and the floor is uneven, but it has been like that for as long as I can remember. We don't use a lot of modern technology here; we still prefer writing things down in our ledgers. The air in the building can get a bit stuffy during the monsoon, so we keep the windows open even if it lets in the street noise. We usually eat our lunch together at the back of the shop. There isn't much room to move around when we get a fresh delivery of stock. Customers come in and sit on the old stools we have near the counter. We talk about the prices and how the market is moving. It is a very simple way of doing things, and it works for us. Sometimes we stay a little later just to finish the day’s paperwork.
