The Retreat

The Retreat is located out on Madh Island, specifically on Erangal Beach. You have to take Madh Marve Road to get to us, and the pin code is 400061. It’s a bit of a journey from the main parts of Mumbai, but we’ve been out here by the water for quite a while. Our days are shaped by the tides and the weather coming off the Arabian Sea. It’s not a polished, high-rise kind of place. We deal with a lot of salt air and sand, so there is always something that needs a bit of a scrub or a fresh coat of paint. We’re just a local business trying to keep things running. People come out this way when they want to see a bit of green and the beach without leaving the city entirely. It’s a quiet life compared to the mainland. We don’t have a lot of fancy talk for what we do. It’s just a hotel where we try to keep the rooms tidy and the gardens from getting too overgrown. Most of the workers live nearby or come over on the boat. It's a regular job for us and we just try to get the work done right. The staff is used to the slower pace out here. Sometimes the ferry is the best way to get near us, depending on where you're coming from. We’re just a simple spot on Erangal Beach, doing what we’ve always done.
