Tata Memorial Hospital

Working in the Department of Medical Oncology at Tmh on Ernest Borges Marg is a bit different from your average office job. Parel is a place that never really sleeps, and this street is always packed with people and cars. Our department is part of the larger Tata Memorial Hospital complex, and it’s a place where things can get pretty serious. We don't spend a lot of time on small talk. There’s a lot of paperwork to manage and patients to see, so we just focus on the task at hand. The building feels old and has that specific smell of cleaning supplies and medicine. We have rows of filing cabinets that are overflowing, and the computers are a bit slow sometimes. It’s a functional space, meant for work, not for looking nice. We see a lot of people who are going through a hard time, so we try to be as direct and honest as possible. There’s no point in sugarcoating things. Most of us have been working here for years and we’ve seen the street outside change quite a bit, but the work inside stays pretty much the same. We take our breaks when we can, usually grabbing a quick coffee from the canteen. It’s a heavy job, but it’s important. We just come in, do our shifts, and try to make sure everything is handled correctly before we go home to our families in the evening.
