If you head down to Chinch Bunder, you will find us at 41496. It is an old area of Mumbai, very near the docks and the old markets. Suraj Transport Co has been functioning out of this spot for a good while. The air here always smells a bit like salt and heavy machinery because of all the trucks moving in and out. It is a very busy place, and the streets are often jammed with lorries loading and unloading goods. Our office is tucked into one of the older buildings. It’s dusty and there are always stacks of ledgers and delivery notes piled up on the wooden tables. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to drivers and making sure the routes are clear. Chinch Bunder is not a place for people who like quiet. There is constant honking and shouting from the loaders. We usually start very early before the sun is even fully up to get a head start on the traffic. The tea man comes around twice a day, and that is usually when we take a small break. It is hard work, but it is what we know. We don't have a website or any of that fancy stuff; we just rely on the work we do every day. The building is old and the stairs are narrow, but it’s home for the business. Dealing with transport in this city is never easy, but we manage to keep things moving.
