Spectrum Publication

Spectrum Publication is over at Unit D/7 in Gandhi Nagar. This is part of the Worli and Sakinaka area, which is always moving and changing. The unit is more like a small warehouse than a fancy office. We have rows of metal shelves packed with books and journals that we’ve published over the years. The floor is concrete and can get a bit cold in the early mornings. There’s a constant sound of tape dispensers and the rustle of brown paper as we pack up orders for shipping. We have one corner set aside with a couple of desks for the editing and layout work. It’s quite dusty because of all the paper around, so we’re always wiping down the computer screens. The lighting comes from big industrial lamps hanging from the ceiling. It’s not the kind of place where you’d host a fancy meeting, but it works perfectly for what we need to get done. We get a lot of trucks coming into the compound, so it’s always a bit noisy outside with people shouting instructions and engines idling. We’ve been in Gandhi Nagar for quite some time now and know the rhythms of the area well. Most days are spent checking proofs or counting stock. It’s honest work, and we just keep at it without much fuss from our little spot in the estate.
