Operating out of Kanjurmarg West means we are right in the middle of a lot of industrial noise and activity. Our workshop isn't a place for suits or polished floors. Most of us have grease under our fingernails and we like it that way. We spend the day working with metal, machines, and tools that make a lot of noise. The air usually smells a bit like oil and hot steel. We don't really have a front desk because we are usually out back near the lathes or the welding stations. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, especially when the machines have been running since eight in the morning. We take our tea breaks sitting on whatever crates are nearby. There isn't much to see if you are looking for a fancy office, just a lot of raw materials and parts waiting to be finished. We have been in this part of Kanjurmarg for a while and we know the other shop owners around here. Sometimes we have to wait on a delivery of steel or a part for one of our own machines, which slows things down. We just focus on the job at hand and try to get the dimensions right. It is heavy work and by the end of the shift, everyone is ready to head home. We just shut the shutters and start again the next day. It is a simple way to make a living, working with our hands.
