Soni Envelope Makers

Soni Envelope Makers is on the ground floor at 40 Goa Street, right in the Fort area. If you look across the street, you can see the Shere Punjab Hotel, which is a good landmark if you're trying to find us. Our days are filled with the sound of paper being folded and the smell of glue. It’s a very specific kind of work, making envelopes by hand or with the small machines we have here. The Fort area is always buzzing with office workers and lawyers, so there is a constant demand for what we do. We have piles of different paper stocks everywhere, from plain white to thicker brown sheets. The shop isn't very large, so we have to stay organized or we would run out of room to walk. We usually have the radio playing in the background to keep us going through the long afternoons. It’s a bit repetitive, but there is a rhythm to it that feels good. Sometimes we step out to the hotel across the way for a quick snack or a cup of tea when we need a break from the paper. Being on the ground floor means we see everyone passing by on Goa Street. We’ve been here long enough that we recognize the postman and the other shopkeepers around us. It’s a traditional way of working and we like being right in the heart of the city's old business district.
