Our place is in Vile Parle West, inside the Shankar Dhara housing society on Vitthalbhai Road. It’s a quiet enough street compared to the main market areas, but it still gets its fair share of traffic throughout the day. We are in unit 1003. Working with diamonds in a residential society like this makes for a pretty calm environment. You don’t get the constant noise of a storefront, which is nice when you need to focus on fine details. Vile Parle has a very specific feel to it, very family-oriented and busy with students and local shoppers. Most of us have been around this part of Mumbai for a long time, so we know the shortcuts and the best places to get a quick tea. The building itself is pretty standard for the area, well-maintained but without any unnecessary bells and whistles. We spend our hours here looking at stones and handling the logistics of the diamond trade. It’s a lot of sitting at desks and making sure everything is tracked correctly. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just a small group of people doing their jobs in a neighborhood we’ve grown to like quite a bit. Sometimes the monsoon makes the road outside a bit of a mess, but that is just life in Mumbai. We keep the office simple, just the tools we need and enough chairs for everyone. It works for our needs and keeps us close to home.
