You can find Shree Sai Nath Impex at 19, Bank Street Cross Lane. It’s right opposite the Old Customs House in the Fort area. If you know Mumbai, you know how tight these lanes can get. The building is old, with high ceilings and those heavy doors that have been there for decades. Working in Fort means you are always in the middle of a crowd. There’s a lot of history in these walls, but we are too busy with our import and export work to think much about it. Our office is packed with ledgers and samples. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the boxes stacked up. The humidity from the sea is always there, and the ceiling fans just move the warm air around. We spend a lot of time dealing with the paperwork required for shipping things in and out. It’s not a flashy job. We drink a lot of tea from the vendor on the corner. Sometimes the internet goes out or the electricity flickers, and we just wait it out. It’s a busy, noisy, and slightly chaotic place to work, but we like the energy of the area. Being near the Old Customs House is convenient for the kind of stuff we handle every day. The morning commute through the crowded station is a struggle, but once we reach the office, we get into our rhythm.
