Shimmer Ledies Salon

We opened up here at Rashmi Towar on Satellite Road quite some time back. It's unit number 10, right on the ground floor so it's easy for the ladies in J B Nagar to just walk in when they’re done with their grocery shopping. The space is a bit tight, especially on Sunday afternoons when everyone wants their hair done at the exact same time. We have four chairs, but one of them squeaks a lot when you try to pump it up. I’ve tried oiling it, but it doesn't seem to help much. The mirrors are big and we try to keep them clean, though hairspray always leaves a bit of a fog on the edges. There’s usually some music playing on a small radio in the corner, usually just whatever station is catching the signal that day. Most of the girls who work here live nearby, so we spend a lot of time talking about local news or what’s happening in the building. It smells like henna and those fruity shampoos we use. Sometimes the water pressure acts up, and we have to wait a minute for the geyser to warm up properly. It isn't a fancy spa or anything like that. It’s just a place to get your threading done or a quick haircut without spending a fortune. We keep a stack of old magazines on the table for when there’s a wait. It's nothing too special, just our little shop.
