Shawl Art

We are located at number 3 in the Jaitirath Mansion, which is on Barrack Road. It is an old building with a lot of character, tucked away right behind the Metro Cinema. People who come to visit us often say they like the old-fashioned feel of the place, even if the hallways are a bit dark and the elevator is a bit temperamental. We have our shawls spread out on large tables so we can inspect them, and the shelves are stacked high with different colors and patterns. It is a quiet place most of the time, away from the main noise of the Mumbai streets, though you can still hear the city hum in the background. We have been here for years, and the walls are covered with old calendars and notes we’ve scribbled to ourselves. The lighting is a bit dim, but it helps us see the textures of the fabric better. We aren't a big operation with hundreds of employees; it is just a handful of us who know the stock inside out. We spend our mornings sorting through new arrivals and our afternoons packing up orders for people who have been buying from us for a long time. There is no corporate ladder here, just people doing their jobs and making sure the shawls are handled with care. It’s a simple, steady life in a very historic part of the city, and we hope to stay here for many more years.
